Kullahad - Earthen Cup Making

“Seeing is believing” and “Try of your own” are the basis of the approach of the Institute for transfer of technology. The Institute is therefore undertaking pilot projects for dissemination of information of the prototype tools/equipments/ machines to create confidence about the working efficiency and demonstrative effect over the areas as well as among the beneficiary groups.

Hon. Railway Minister Shri Lalooprashad Yadav announced the use of Kullahad for tea to be served in railway as an eco friendly products. The Institute had studied the Kullahad used earlier, their problems of handling, its out look and the irregular shape, heavy in weight etc. In consultation with Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), we have developed simple production technique by using appropriate technology to overcome the hazards of earlier product.

After successful experiment on pilot basis Institute had trained two groups of women - (non traditional potters) impart them skill for production of improved version of   Kullahad   by using locally available soil from village pond.

The product have been launched   in   Regional Navaratri SARAS-2004 at Ahmedabad and found over whelming response of the users as it is eco- friendly, bio degradable, light weight, uniform size, human labour intensive and good outlook.

Product also put up in IITF-2004 at Gujarat Pavilion. During the inaugural function of Saras-2004 on 17-11-2004   Hon. Minister for   Rural Development   Govt. of India Shri Raghuvansh Prashad Singh enjoyed   tea in traditional Kullhad and appreciated the   research   work done by RTIG and shown willingness to use of such Kullahad in "Krishi Bhavan" . Institute also trying it up with railway for Kuulahad to be used in Rajdhani and Satabadi Express.

The product is well recognized and well received   by all. We are sure of providing employment to numbers of women of   Rural   Gujarat.

This product not only provide new income generation activity but save environment problem also.
